Quick question Gen 1
New bike to me, changed all fluids, new CCT today, started her up and drove a little ways with no fairings or mirrors, all seems to be functioning well. There is a high pitched whine that is part of the engine noise, and it follows the revs. Is this normal for Gen1? Thanks.

Re: Quick question Gen 1
It was normal for my '04. Kind of a turbine whine. This wasn't the bad kind of whining

Whine or even sort of a whistle. My high frequency hearing sucks so it doesn't bother me. Could be air intake too. Cutting the "horn" off used to be a thing and that increases the intake noise without other discernable benefit AFAIK.

Straight cut gears on the cam and the transmission -- it's gonna whine. With my current helmet I can't hear any engine noise. For better or worse. It sure reduces the number of things to worry about.

Re: Quick question Gen 1
I believe it to be the middle gear whine, most all FJR's have it to some degree.
Keep yer stick on the ice........... (Red Green)
Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can sure muffle the sound.

Thanks for all the replies. I will consider it normal. I had just done the CCT so wanted to confirm. The bike certainly does GO! I can't wait to get the plastic back on and really ride......

Re: Quick question Gen 1
If I ride my FJR without earbuds, I hear all kinds of noises that are normal but make me wonder what the Hell is going on below me. I'm assuming riding without fairings makes that even worse. Put in your ear buds/plugs, put on your helmet and get your music going. All will be right with the world.
