FYI, starting with 2013 and throttle by wire, the clutch switch sends a signal to the ECU to increase rpm by about 100 when you just start to release it. Anti-stall feature, you'll feel that increase if you do it slowly and not add in any throttle.
This is a feature that makes very slow speed manoeuvring quite tricky on my Gen 3 AS (AE in the USA). You ease up the throttle, clutch starts to engage, and the ECU says "more throttle" so the bike moves faster and, with the still quite low throttle setting, the clutch engages more. Very difficult to control without using the rear brake, which in my case isn't covered because my foot is still hovering just off the road surface.

It's totally unnecessary as it's virtually impossible to stall a YCC-S bike, it just takes away the rider's ability to hold the bike with the clutch slipping.

The good news is that, as you slow, the clutch stays engaged to a lower rpm than the Gen 2, and when it does start to slip it holds a bit of torque. Makes doing very tight hairpins a little easier than with a Gen 2, which would simply disengage the clutch leaving you leaned over with no drive. In my Gen 2 era, I would sometimes slow right down before the hairpin, wait for the clutch to let go, then ease up the throttle to hold the clutch in the friction zone to take the corner.

I had a chance to take the 16 FJR out for a ride today, not long, but long enough to run up through several extended gear changes. I felt no difference using any gear, and while not taking off from a high rpm start was done, i didnt slowly pull away either. Several times i launched and ended up at speed...lets leave it at that. I noticed no difference. Either i have what should be done during the trans recall and all is well or i didnt get the reflash. I would suspect something is amiss with the OPs service. Sadely, it's tucked away again. Busy schedule.

This is definitely intriguing. How does the ECU know that the clutch is in the friction zone? Compares wheel speed to rpm?

That's what the YCC-S variant does, though in its case that may be done in the MCU which the conventional FJR doesn't have. But the sensors and technology are available.

It knows where the clutch is anyway. It automatically increases rpms when the clutch is first released. Don’t know where it gets its’ data, I figure from the switch at the lever. Fortunately, the limit on the reflashed bike isn’t one that you’d ever find in low speed maneuvers or normal operations. It sounds scary, but it’s far too high to be a problem, or even detectable, in normal operation.
