Prob gonna see some waterfalls, but not quite that far north!
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
First change of an FJR tire with the new to me HF changer.
Can’t go to Arky with tires they look like this!
So you gotta do this.
The Road 5 came off in 5 minutes. Was totally a piece of cake. Set it out in the sun and barely needed the tire iron. Gotta get the tire in the valley!
Took me about 10 min to get the Shinko Raven on. Temps in the garage were in the low 60s, so it was super pleasant, but rubber cooled off some.
All in all I have about 1 hour in the set up. That includes putting the 15 on the lift and getting the HF changer bolted down and swapping the tires. Cleaning the rear of the bike, wiping any old grease away, and reassembling the bike. Now just have to clean up, take her off the lift and go for a ride.
Almost messed up putting the white dot away from the valve stem. Don’t have my balancer yet, so I went with beads this time.
Gonna be riding in about 45 min.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Maybe, if you used Wheatie’s standards for replacement.
If you go to Arkansas with a tire like that, you are gonna be looking for one by day 2! That 5 was replaced in Colorado, we rode 2 up camping about 1,000 miles back to Spearfish. Then it was abused at EOM with FYB and friends. It also held up to a 5 day mission down to Arkansas with a few hooligans. Add to the total about 1500 miles around here and that tire owes me nuttin’.
That reminds me, I need to reset trip #2 and see what the actual mileage was. I use trip #1 for the front and trip #2 for the rear.
5,399.7 ~~~~ I am not gonna claim it has more than about 500 more miles before it is completely toast; depending on how I were to ride it obviously.
Rear was speed tested up to 120mph for 30 plus seconds. Balance beads either worked fine, or I got lucky and it just balances with the dot on the stem.

I use an app called Road Trip on iPhone https://apps.apple.com/us/app/road-trip-mpg/id298398207. Also record all maintenance and fuel purchases.
Trip 1 gets reset at fuel purchases. Trip 2 gets reset at start of a ride.

Rode it. First ride of Spring. Just a 30 mile little loop. 65 degrees in Michigan yesterday.

We are polar opposites on tires. After the BT023s wore out I have only had PR4GTs. I like them, so I just keep getting another set.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
As a matter of fact, yes. Glad I did because I have developed a distinct preference. I don't like the PR4GT on the front, as it wears the steering degrades, pulls/falls into turns. Other tires do this too. The T31GT did not. Was one of the least expensive and current mileage champ. Wasn't as happy with T31GT on rear at the same time but that tire developed a leak I could not repair so I mounted the PR4GT I had waiting and found bliss. Now I have the opposite of my favorite, a T30 Evo rear, PR4GT front. Maybe the not-GT T30 Evo works better for me than a T31GT rear? That I like 'em flexible in the rear? PR4 even in GT is a flexible tire. Cycle Gear had T30 Evo closeout: $175/pair. Bought like an idiot forgetting my Yamaha dealer had them in stock for $150/pair.
The Z6 wasn't too bad but for being paper thin. Bicycle tire thin. The rear wore faster than the front (unusual for me). Punctured by what was probably a staple on what was to be one of its last rides. Pinprick holes tore when I pushed sticky strings in. Ended up doubling the string for 4 through each hole. Still had to stop once in the 35 mile beeline home to inflate the tire.
Anyway, can't know what you like if you haven't ridden it.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I installed the speedbleeders today. Wish I had done that years ago! They make brake fluid flush so much easier. And get the silicone hose and bag. I've fought with a vacuum pump and rubber hose and yes that is a fight! Cycled the abs and flushed the clutch system good to go.
If you do your own and don't have speedbleeders you are working too hard.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
What's really cool, is that I think it's the rear one that's a different size than the rest. Maybe, anyway, since you order them in pairs, you'll end up with an extra bleeder at the end. If you are like several of us here that also own a DRZ400, that extra bleeder is a fit for the front brake on the DRZ.Full House wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 4:50 pm I installed the speedbleeders today. Wayne, I think you are using old bath rugs for a work surface. I have been using them for years now in the workbench. Anytime the wife wants to buy new ones, I act like I don’t want to, then talk her into washing the old ones. I go back to the store and buy them for her and take the clean/kinda worn out ones to the garage. She thinks I am so sweet!! I am winning that deal for sure! Once they get nasty, I flip them over until they are gone.

We practice a very stringent recycle / re-use program in this house when it comes to anything that can be deployed in the workshop.
Although I did not post pictures, rest assured that the fork legs were no subjected to any level of "gixxerjasenage". Final flush at lunch and reassembly this evening.
