Saw in another thread that ol' Wheatie lost his epic RR due to PB and FjrForum ban. Thought I'd add a bean to the karma jar and help ol Wheatie out.. so copied and pasted to my CBA site Mark's epic ride, pictures included.

Penny bar, check.
58, check.
I have seen a few of those sites before...while Carver was buried in a Nookie plant.
Did you go in the Penny Bar? We were there at 9 am before they opened but a fellow said come onto the patio where we were served coffee and some sort of delicious coffee cake. I did go in and check out all the penny's on the walls and the art work with the pennys. Cool place and nice folks!
Yes, in 2011 Airboss and I went on 58 and had brunch at the Penny Bar. Took photos that should be in the ride report that I can’t see anymore over “there”.
Don’t have the photos anymore because I was a fool and trusted photosuckit.

If Wheaties could see the pictures they would look something like this:

Damn! THAT's a penny bar ...
I've always wondered why that building didn't collapse from its own weight. Perhaps the saving thing is that copper pennies are made from zinc which is over 100 lbs lighter than copper per cubic foot.
Edited the link to go right to my old Kali report...

The gentleman who gave us the tour said there are over a million penny's in the place. The building is quite old and in earthquake country, I suspect the penny's are whats holding the building together.

I really enjoyed reading this epistle last evening. Nice report Wheatie, and really nice of DC to resurrect it for you from purgatory. I've been to many of the places pictured but have not been to a lot of the central California places. Maybe on the way to/from the Trifecta this fall. YFO to Reuben Run will provide an opportunity. Thanks again for posting DC.

Just a footnote, this trip occurred in May...which is a good time for greenery vs brownery in the central valley and coast, if you can't be there end of April. I explored gold country due to TominCa taking off work to lead us around. I could see snowy peaks in NorCal...Mt Shasta was beautiful, as were the Trinity Alps. I did miss out on the Sierra Nevada passes, but figured I would be back in a few years. Its been ten.
The Cali locals will always give you good advice regarding time of year to visit and good roads to ride. I got great help before and during the trip.
I grew up in NORCAL. I recognize that Central Cali will likely be warm and brown in September. Still, I am looking forward to exploring. I've ridden RT 1 from North to South multiple times but have never run it South to North. That should be fun as well.
