Back on topic, two recall letters arrived today. Seems I am one of the last to receive the letter, but seems to be a...
Still haven't received my letters but all three recalls are done. Dealer checked my vin like i did and confirmed. Not sure about the mailing order...
Someone above mentioned fjr recall without engine removal. I watched the latest (?) vid by Smokes(sp?) Blog on YouTube and he had a short pan to an fjr with the engine still in frame and the right side covers removed down to seeing the timing chain. Interesting if the engine stays in the frame. I wonder if the dealer that did mine removed the engine or not.
I figure if I get 1,000 miles on it, post repair, and it hasn’t blown up or sprung a leak, it’ll be like it never happened. But today is a long day, waiting for them to put things back together. I look forward to hearing from folks that have already had the transmission work done and are back to riding those bikes.
My dealer (not D&H) claims Yamaha parts take 3-4 weeks to get here in Alabama on the outskirts of civilization. They will do their 2018 showroom model first. Then order parts for mine. I’ve quit holding my breath. Changed oil yesterday to see if I can get Murphy’s Law to speed things up. But Murphy’s Law is recursive: can’t wash one’s car to make it rain, but washing one’s car is a sure way to make it rain if you don’t want it to.
In other news rode past the infamous D&H yesterday. Didn’t stop.

I’ve done transmissions on other motorcycles. Some split cases vertically, others horizontally. A few, none I have done, have a cartridge transmission that can be swapped from the side. Those are sometimes found on sport bikes for racing applications. Plates on the side suggests the FJR might have a cartridge transmission but it does not. FJR splits horizontally. The case must be split because the case clamps the transmission and crankshaft bearings, the case is the bearing clamps.
Ouch!!
The blue FJR on just like mine, and next to it a black Versys 1000 - My previous other greet bike that never had surgery of any kind... what are the chances of that?
The dealer called today to say the parts for the brake light and tranny have arrived. Being winter in Spokane Washington the next hurdle is to ride the bike to the dealership on a dry day. I want to give the shop a clean bike and keep the bike free of calcium chloride. The shop wants it asap to beat spring rush.
Searching for roads paved with Asphalt, unless I am riding the mighty DR650 bushpig.

Ask them to send over a trailer? Worth a shot?

I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

It will be 17° on Friday and it is only 15 miles so as long as it is dry pavement I can do that with heated gear.
It is risky enough having them fix it and ya want me to trust them to put in on a trailer, haul it and take it off the trailer safely? Have you seen the YouTube videos on loading a bike on a trailer?

My '18, according to the service writer, is all put back together but is having a hard time getting the reflash done as they have having issues with a cable or computer. They are waiting on a call from Toyota. It's been about a week like this.

Probably why it's taking so long

Called my dealer a bit ago, yep there's a recall for sure. Imagine that. He's checking for parts availability and will let me know when to drop it off, then I asked for the complimentary all inclusive warranty funded Rayzerman express pick up and delivery, no go. Imagine that.
My dealer called me last week to inform that the parts came in, so I dropped my bike off Saturday. He said it should be about a week. Then I asked him what they'd charge to do a valve check while they were in there, $200 to check, $350 if they have to pull the cams. Being a cheap bastard is difficult sometimes.

That was a brain fart for sure. Waiting for a call from Yamaha!!! Although they could be using the same software....just saying.
Cross posted. But you know I love you best... Mine was completed today. Scheduled for Tuesday, two days later I got the call. They have heat cycled 5 times without issue. They want to ride it some tomorrow, they don’t want me to pick it up until they’ve put some miles on it. I said “hell, get somebody to ride it home, it’s insured”. But they won’t ride it in the rain.....
Pickup will be tomorrow evening or Saturday, depending upon how it performs after (and during) tomorrow’s check ride, and if I can manage to get there after work, which is not a given.
I feel better just knowing it’s “done” and running.
