For the 100th time in this thread, thanks for your work "keeping the lights on" in this place.
Don't be shy: where do I donate for next year's malware protection program?
PS: Yeah, I "loved" and got errors. Reminded me of the first 45 years of my life.

Re: WTF Happened on February 3rd, 2021 (Forum Outage)
Thanks for the work getting the site back online!
This may or may not be relevant info, but I'll pass it on. When I first was introduced to this site a couple weeks ago, the FIRST time I typed in the address my browser got hijacked and my AV went nuts with crap about a captchatopsource virus and wanted me to click the "allow" button which would have allowed the extension in Chrome to pass through.
I closed the browser immediately and updated all my AV and scanned everything to make sure it wasn't on my computer and it didn't find anything. I typed in the site again and didn't have any trouble and haven't since. I'm not as up on the recent threats as I used to be, but can't this indicate more of a DNS hack?

Malware, eh? Has the person at the hosting company, who clicked on the unsolicited link in their email, been sacked yet?

Depending on timing, what you describe probably happened in the window where the malware was active just before our host company detected and quarantined everything.goodman4 wrote:Thanks for the work getting the site back online!

Challenge. Accepted.
I'm also playing with the feature that allows specific words to be redacted or changed - for instance, type "f@$k" now and hit post - see what shows up... This feature opens the door for many fun games to be played.

Re: WTF Happened on February 3rd, 2021 (Forum Outage)
I appreciate the effort. I have no idea what it means technically, but certainly understand that to get where we are took gumption and money. And while the former stands on its own merit, the latter is open ended. To that extent, Wayne, Jason, and Tim - please setup some kind of a donation page, whereby we can all give something to help defray your cost. Many of us want to help and this is the only way we know how and it's the least we can do.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: WTF Happened on February 3rd, 2021 (Forum Outage)
Regarding donations - I do appreciate the continued willingness to support the efforts here monetarily. The donations received have helped take the hosting expenses from a personal burden to minimal at best. A portion of the calendar sales were funneled to the cause (Thank you Tim (Designflaw06) and everyone who purchased a calendar). The malware removal was $299 for the ecommerce / business level plan, and the annual renewal is approaching in April. Domains have been renewed already (fjriders.com, FJREOM.com).
The donation path is established in the attacktheroad.com shop, but is current turned off or in vacation mode while I work on refinements there.
Tim and I are discussion the option of exploring other hosts, which is why the donation item in the store is not turned on yet. One of the lessons learned in this in regards to the support options the host offers. Their front line option is a chat session. That's the path I've always used for minor things, and during the major event, I hit the limitations of that support's ability to address this type of issue. If asked last week, my response would have been we're pulling the ripcord on this joint and finding a new home. But then I called the toll free number they have for support - which is open 24/7 (same as the chat). My fear was that the 800 number would dump to a call center off-shore and I'd be in a conversation with "Jerry" that needed every question / response repeated in clearer english. To my surprise, I got Adam in Denver. He was immediately concerned and committed to have the issue resolved that day. Shame on me for fumbling through countless chat sessions when I could have called sooner. Credit for the call (or making the call) goes to Tim. Adam teamed up with Sam, who did some final adjustments that allowed us to be at a point to access the forum and begin reinstalling the extensions / customizations.
Their customer service when live via phone was outstanding, and was substantial enough for me to retract my "we're pulling the ripcord" statement.
At some point I do intend to open the shop and ask for donations to off set the annual host plan and to recoup the funds I spent on the malware service. I'm just not to that point yet, because the focus is on ensuring the emoji's and love button is functioning, among other things, like the backup and migration strategy, etc.
Again, thank you for everyone's patience and assistance. The FJRiders.com outage warning system functioned flawlessly (thanks wheatie & 0face), and to Tim for his patience's in explaining things at a level even this knuckle-dragger could understand (mostly).
