Spearfish Creek freezing from the bottom up! This unusual phenomenon happens because of the fast flow rate of the creek and the rocky creek bed combined with very low temps. The rapid water current prevents ice from forming on the top layer and instead begins forming on the rocky bottom, because there’s enough friction to slow the water down to the point it freezes.
