Welcome to the FJR world, don’t make yourself scarce...and remember to help others along the way. That’s how we do it here...no secret handshakes, no hoops to jump through, just the initial joshing around sometimes unless yer a dik...then the joshing becomes a hazing.

So, the FJR ends up being a 2003? If so, there is a persistent rumor that the '03 had 'introductory HP' making it quicker than consequent years. This was a real thing that motorcycle brands used to do, and it made for some good magazine reviews.

I have a picture of the CCT on the bike. It has a dot but there is no pigment to it in the picture, although it is in the right place. I can't seem to get it to post, or I would be asking if you all thought it looked like a replacement to the original.

BTW, no worries about helping when I can. I have had to learn everything from scratch so I know how valuable (and time saving) experienced input can be.

Thank you! Well, the dot is in exactly the right place. It's just a little frayed at the edges and has lost its pigment, apparently.

I can see the photo when I click your link. I don't know for sure if this is a solid identification of the "dot" new version or not. I would carefully listen for noise and plan to replace it when you do the first valve clearance check (or earlier). Around $108 from on-line parts places plus $13 for the timing case cover gasket (might not be needed) and a couple of bucks for the CCT gasket.

You can use https://postimages.org/ to post photos directly. Don't need an account and service is free. Wouldn't guarantee they will stay forever but suitable for this application.

Um... no. A couple of questions were asked about ebay used ones with a black dot. Steer clear, grasshopper... I have never seen a blue or green one change colour or lose its pigment... if in doubt, just get a new one for peace of mind.

Received CCT and two gaskets today (Sun.!) Glad I opened it - the greeen dot was almost worn off from chafe inside the box (doh!). Now I think I have the correct dot.

The one for the CCT plus the one for the timing cover?

I would definitely replace the CCT one - just because it is a major pain to get to it.
The timing cover can usually be removed without damaging the gasket but you need to have one around just in case.
Watch for the dowel pins when you remove the cover and make sure you don't pinch wires (O2 sensor) in the cover when you replace it.

10-4. Two gaskets just in case. If I don't need both, it is no big deal. Won't be held up if the other one is needed. Will scope the pins and wires. Many thanks.

I have the 2005 ABS FJR1300A. It pains me these forums don't give this bike the respect the fastest color and superior Gen I deserves, but I did the heat fix, blue-dot CCT, forks and main suspension upgrades, Rick Meyer custom seat, Clearwater Krista LED lights, Cyclops 8300 lm LEDs 88-degree valve stems, throttle lock, heated gear, electrical upgrades and kept after routine maintenance. It has given me many years and miles of trouble-free, high performance riding with multiple transcontinental trips, gatherings and rallies and day rides. It never stranded me, and I wouldn't hesitate to take it coast to coast any time. For a 15 year old bike, it seems fresh in style and performance, and still gets compliments. It's faster than my angles can fly, and I have to keep remembering they fly slower these days. It's not the latest, but I'd argue it's the greatest, and probably the last bike I'll ever own.
