2021-01-06 KZ1300 runs perfect and...

Post by dcarver »

I can't say the rest of what happened today in our capital...

So let's stick to a 42 year old KZ1300 ride, ok?

I know most don't 'Get This.'

And that's OK. I bought this bike new. Actually took a loan out from a bank for it. And, as you who personally know me, I'm a 'cash on barrel head' guy.' No debts, no liabilities.

But, 42 years ago I took the plunge..

And the B I T C H still rides..
(BTW, the bike not me, f@$k heads!)

You mean well done Ray. Carver just rides the things that FJRay fixes and builds! Lol. Kidding. Am sure it was a joint effort.

It is cool for sure. That bike is almost as old as me!

I don't know that I would want to do another one. That engine is one of the most complicated I've done. I'm glad to see Don is getting the fine points worked out.

She has issues.. beyond the scope I asked Ray to address..

This POS bike never was 'excellent'.. Burned oil from day one, big K said f@$k You.. Under supplied, voltage wise..

BUT! Making progress.. Ricks Electrics has modern rectifier/regulators. Noticed to day the voltage values are all over the terrain.. 15.1 to 12.1 for no apparent reason.

Good news is...

See a newer post..

Ah yes, the Honda regulator issues as I discovered on the VFR... If you haven't already bought a Rick's, might I suggest you get a genuine Shindengen mofset.... FH020AA's can be had used from FJ-09, FJR and other Yamahas, then either buy a harness from Roadster Cycle (he sells new Shindengen's too), or make your own if you buy the connectors. Of course, do a quick check of your stator with your multimeter first.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can sure muffle the sound.

It does not matter which bike... stators and regulators have the same circuitry as wired into the bike. The mofset type is a huge upgrade over the old style. The three stator wires go in one side, and the power and ground go into the other side (ensure correct polarity there!). Roadster cycle's harness will fix you right up.
