Re: Transmission recall
Ran mine through the US one. https://www.yamaha-dealers.com/public/w ... tions.html
I’m clean. But with the miles I’ve got on mine, I wasn’t worried.

Re: Transmission recall
Either it doesn't apply to bikes imported into the US or it hasn't been invoked yet. No mention from NHTSA as of earlier today. I doubt that Yamaha would announce it before they did. Since it is more than one "block" of bikes in a single year, I think it is unlikely that any country in the world will be exempt assuming they have relevant laws and an enforcement body such as Transport Canada or NHTSA.bill lumberg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:03 pm Ran mine through the US one. https://www.yamaha-dealers.com/public/w ... tions.html

Re: Transmission recall
A second US poster (2019ES) in another sandbox had a problem... I suggested both should report their incidents to NHTSA.......

Re: Transmission recall
FYI, local dealer reports approx. 450 transmission recall parts are available to order.
Of note, 2020 transmission cassettes have B96-xxxxx-xx part number while 2016-19 have B88-xxxxx-xx part number.

If it was Bust, it would likely include syphilis, and some lower GI issues.Canadian FJR wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 12:39 pm I'm curious to hear/see what this "Transmission Kit" includes.

The service guy at the shop I'm dealing with said its all the guts/gears. They re use your case.
he showed me a copy of the recall letter Yamaha is sending out to owners... There's a diagram of what's to be replaced.
IIRC the diagram looked to represent something like this..

Re: Transmission recall
I have a 13 so just scanning these recall threads.
However, I think I read they need to re flash the ECU. Why would they need to do that?

Re: Transmission recall
I believe this latest recall affects 2016 and newer... 'Seems to be a six speed issue
Clues... I have none.

Re: Transmission recall
We'll just have to ask what the software change is...... could be anything.
So it looks like replacement of both trans cassettes.... they aren't sold any other way. Faster anyway. Kinda a no brainer repair. Service manual does say do not dissassemble the cassettes.

He knows it doesn’t affect his. But he badly wants a 2018. Dan- my 2018 rode some good roads today. Many that you are familiar with. Hope to see you in 2021

Right on all counts. Even my wife is an enabler. She wants me to buy a 2018. She loved your bike.bill lumberg wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 8:18 pm He knows it doesn’t affect his. But he badly wants a 2018. Dan- my 2018 rode some good roads today. Many that you are familiar with. Hope to see you in 2021
Sadly, until I retire my trips to N GA will be in the fall of the year.

Re: Transmission recall
ECU flash - dealer mentioned something about prevention of over reving in neutral. I think they did the same thing on the R6 & R1 that had transmission recalls.

Re: Transmission recall
SkooterG had a 6 speed FJR. He sold it due because he thought something was a miss with the tranny. I seem to recall he didn't like the way it shifted.
Like many the tranny in my '17 is been completely trouble free and smooth. I have 30k miles on it.
If the tranny fails does this mean I get to find out how good the slipper clutch is?
I am thrilled I didn't get Ivan's ECU flash.
Right now my FJR is in the garage until March. By then we should have impact on US models sorted out, just in time for riding season when the service shops are busy. Nuts. Canadians are lucky if they get it fixed this winter - be happy.

Re: Transmission recall
Hard to shift is not likely related to the recall, some have reported issues, but breakage is another story.
For hard to shift, I'd lube all shifter linkages, make sure my clutch was all flushed and bled annually, and check that little brass bushing at the lever. It would be interesting to see if a clutch soak would help too.
