An anti-FJR type ride report
Disclaimer: Not my ride report
This is a local guy down here, super nice, he's the one who let me ride his motorcycle for a weekend to try out the Texas MiniGP racing. Anyway, he's currently writing and posting a ride report he's just gotten home from.
It's an RR counter to the typical FJR type of ride, where big miles are usually needed for an adventure. Instead, he's a 72 year old guy who went on a 67 day ride living and camping off of his DRZ400SM. He averaged 100-200 miles per day making sure to stop and sniff the flowers and hike to nearby waterfalls and scenic views.
Anyway, I've been enjoying the heck out of it and thought I'd share it over here. Thought there might be some that might find enjoyment from it.

Re: An anti-FJR type ride report
My OCD-ish nature has me bored before I even read it. When with GWRRA their frequent stops to chat at gas stations (when everyone had a CB) and detours to things off-bike (cave tours, etc.) always had be tapping my toe waiting to get rolling again. A friend once said something like, "I'll have plenty of time to smell the flowers when they are placed on my grave." Always made me smile.

I told my wife once I retire there will be no more riding the Interstate on motorcycles. If it takes a couple extra day to get there we will just leave earlier.

GWRRA, Gold Wing Restaurant Reviewers Association? Every ride includes stop at least one restaurant then an article in the chapter newsletter about how everything was sooo goood!

Excellent report! Shouldn't it be "Non-FJR" report. Anti had me thinking he had something against them.

Re: An anti-FJR type ride report
I struggled with how to name it because I thought that as well. Not sure. It's more than just not having an FJR as it's pretty much the opposite of how I travel on my FJR. I dunno, glad you enjoyed it though. I'm anxious for him to finish. Great learning today about Cycle Camp Bob. I gotta go there one day.

Re: An anti-FJR type ride report
This ride report reminded me of two things.
1) How lucky I have been to see most of the places he talks about.
2) How many places I've road by and not even known they were there.
Great ride report. I will go back to see the next installment.

Re: An anti-FJR type ride report
Oof
Those waiting on the final installment, it looks like he's done.
I think I'd rather do 1000 miles on an FJR instead of 568 on a DRZ off interstates! On Sunday morning I was in Morenci, Arizona, 908 miles from home according to my GPS. A good route that included going to Hatch, NM for green chili enchiladas and avoiding nearly all interstate added 70 miles for a total of 978 miles. I hugged my wife at around 8:00 PM Monday evening. Monday's ride, my longest day, was 568 miles from Artesia, NM to Bryan.
Those waiting on the final installment, it looks like he's done.
