Mobil 1 ??

Post by NTXFJR »

I know, I know, I'm treading in dangerous waters here what with talking about oil and such, but I haven't run across this before. I know some of us have been using Rotella T6 with relative success. I went into the auto parts shop with the intent of buying a 5 qt jug of it the other day. They only had gallon jugs with no quarts. Being the cheap bastage that I am I didn't want to fork over the funds for 2 gallon jugs so figured I'd just go over to the motorcycle oil shelf and get 5 qts of conventional yet one more time. Lo and behold, they had Mobil 1 motorcycle specific oil. Has anyone tried this yet? I'm interested in any feedback you might have. Tia.

You can find it at Walmart and that's what I run. I stopped the Rotella T6 after my clutch issues, found this shortly afterwards for a good price at Wally world.

I've been using it in all my families bikes for years with no problems. I'm not an oil expert but I trust Mobil 1 oil and feel confident that its a decent oil.

Agree, Mobil 1 had been around for 40+ years so I'd tend to trust it, especially since this one is formulated specifically for motorcycles. I don't feel as confident in conventional oils no matter the brand on those 6k to 8k+ mile cross country trips.

I used Amsoil for forever in the toys I had but it is too hard to find and just seemed to get more and more expensive. About 6 years ago I changed completely over to Mobil 1 10-40 for motorcycles in both motorcycles and the jet ski. Cannot tell any difference, everything runs great as it should. I change my oil too often to probably get any real benefit of synthetic oil but it gives me peace of mind and I never, ever, worry about oil when I'm on vacation on my bike.

A suggestion - Ray brought this up previously. Since this topic comes and goes over time, and to avoid having 5,000 of them, I can designate / rename this thread as "The FJRiders.com OIL thread" and it can be an ongoing oil discussion.

Thoughts?

I think you should berate the OP, Lock the thread, and Require the OP to cite and quote the rules they broke when they agreed to the terms of posting on this site.

On second thought, maybe a section dedicated to oil questions/comments is not a bad thing. Maybe index it with some kind of subtopic areas if that is possible.

Should I be ducking???? Sorry, it is Monday and our smoke detectors, that are all hooked together, went off last night repeatedly for no known reason. I am cranky. My face looks like Redfishes now.

It's a toss up really. This is a specific question about a specific oil, not a "What oil should I run" thread. While these come up often, having one thread causes good information to get buried and difficult to find. It's a hard question to find a good answer to.

My tires are indigent and insulted because they feel they have been deliberately ignored and socially slighted. If OIL can have its own thread TIRES want one too. :stickpoke:

I used to run Mobil 1 motorcycle oil in my Honda VF1100. At oil change time, regular oil poured out as a thin liquid, the Mobil 1 came out with significantly thicker viscosity. Mobil 1 motorcycle oil is supposed to have polomer chains which are more resistant to shearing in the transmission gears so it retains viscosity better. Oddly, Mobil 1 made the already noisy valve train in my Honda even more noisy but that was a lock-nut system.

I stopped using Mobil 1 and Castrol motorcycle oil only because I couldn't find them anyplace local to me. I'm due for an oil change so maybe it's time to look again. (Hello, Amazon...)

Just bought 4 qts Mobil 1 cycle 10w40 two weeks ago at Walmart. Think it was around $10.30 qt.
Daytona Bike week it used to go on sale at Advance Auto Parts and if I remembered I stocked up. I think for like $9 qt. Now that Walmart carries it I don't worry about it.

There is A Reason. Either the batteries in one or more of the detectors has died or one of the detectors has failed. The life span of residential smoke detectors is about 10 years. If one fails it will start all of them beeping. I recently replaced all of them for my favorite ex-brother-in-law and mine are doing the same thing.

I like the idea of a dedicated Oil Thread but I also think that This Thread that is specifically asking about Mobil 1 should have its own thread.

Well, well, I just checked Walmart and they show Mobil 1 in stock. Last time I visited the Walmartians they didn't have it.

I wonder what the difference is between the "Fully Synthetic" at Amazon vs the "Advanced Fully Synthetic" at Walmart. Eh, Walmart is cheaper and I can have them toss it in with my groceries when I do my pickup.

And....... you do not have to tell the wife about another motorcycle related purchase. I see this as a Win Win.

Too bad Ivan can't bill his ECU flashing through as Walmart or Target.

It's possible. Years ago I got my Ivan fix for $0.15 at Radio Shack instead of paying him $75 for a resistor.
