Sample from Excel:
I also file paper for big items. Same paper folder I use for the purchase, register info and title for the bike.

Mine is written down on the "blank" pages of the owner's manual. Same concept though.

Small notebook on a clipboard hanging in the shop. Never been asked for it when I sold the bike. I always ask questions when I'm buying, that and my eyes tell me what's going on, records or no records.

Ok, that is quite the difference. Now I'm really glad I ordered a replacement.
Thanks for the pic.

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
The service manual I got started coming apart not soon after. I bought it used so no big deal. I took it to Kinkos and had it spiral bound and put maybe 10 blank sheets of paper in there to do exactly what you do. I open my manual and each line has a date, mileage and description of what I did. It's easy to keep track of and hard to lose. Lol.

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
I’ve been writing everything down in the back of my owner’s manual, but my last entry used the very last square inch of space. I’ll have to staple in a page or two. I also keep a large marker board on the garage fridge with all the vehicles’ (cars, bikes, lawn mower, snow blower...) service reminders, oil type, amount, filters, etc for quick reference.

I keep all vehicle information in one app on my Iphone ap is called Auto Care. I note torque settings and tools used so when I do the job next time I know what I need as well. I always have my phone so when I have to pick up a part or have an issue on the road it is always available for reference.

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
I do a pretty basic Excel spreadsheet similar to ionbeam but perhaps not quite as much detail like the amount of wheel weights used. I also have a dry erase board on one the cabinet doors in my garage with a column for each of my bikes, my truck, and Dianne's car where I keep basic notes like mileage of oil changes so I don't need to look them up with 5 vehicles being maintained.

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
Doesn't the FJR have some type of huge sub-menu that keeps up with all the maintenance numbers?
Obviously, if there is I have never used it.
I made it simple. Every 5000 miles I change the oil and filter. I look in the book to see what else needs done.
Every 10,000 miles I change the rear end lube.
I think MT-09s are bullet proof like FJRs, but just in case I am keeping all the paper work of everything in a folder. I am making no mods that will effect the warranty and letting the dealer do everything until the warranty runs out.

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
There's also this
But I find that firing up the computer (or mobile app) is another stumbling block to actually doing it. So, I keep the receipt, note on it date/time/miles, and toss it in a folder so all stuff is documented (with receipts) as nearly as simply as possible. With NO computer crashes.

Freakin' brilliant. Now I can lay the damned thing down on the table open without having to put a wrench on top of it. $7 bucks at Staples. Why the hell didn't I think of that 14 years ago?HotRodZilla wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:40 pm I took [the manual] to Kinkos and had it spiral bound...

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
I was religious with my last bike. I’ve been lazy about documentation of maintenance on this one. I’ve amazon or paper receipts for oil/filter/FD juice for all the routine stuff, and paper
for the valve check, but I don’t have all the dates all the oil changes and tire changes happened. I think I subliminally neglect recording tire change mileage and dates sometimes because I don’t want to think about how fast they get used up and how much I’m spending on tires.
I think a phone based recording app would work best for me. I need to try one.

Re: My Clutch is Slipping
That right there is the best benefit of having it re-bound. I hated dealing with that book until they spiral bound it. Its awesome to use now.
