I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I covered a significant area with 4'x6'x3/4" thick horse mats, one entire bay and right up to the workbenches. They are smooth black rubber, edges tightly butted, and if you drop something you can usually find it. The big benefit is they are far easier to walk on than concrete and that means a lot after long stretches in the shop, they are firm enough to hold up yer motorcycle, car, lift with very little indentations of the steel rollers on the lift, side stands barely sink in. Get one or two for sure where you stand the most.
I prefer not to put a finish like the above on a shop floor... slippery when wet, can't find stuff, looks impressive though.

Yes, TSC is my source..... watch for sales, those horse people will spend anything, the retail price is too high, collect as necessary when they are half price. Think of it this way, betcha there's a lot of recycled motorcycle tars in there. I do not glue them down, they move a wee bit if temperatures fluctuate, minor cracks between adjoining mats, no biggie, easy to fix once a year. Quite stable inside a heated space. I even have a four of them outside the shop door, nice washing area, but if you drive a car on them, they will migrate (mine are over packed gravel).

I have a smaller matte like that at my work bench. It is more comfortable to stand on for longer periods of time. And when small stuff (fasteners) drops on it, it generally stays on the matte, rather than bouncing from here to kingdom come - easier to find it.

My son must have excellent eyesight. When he was small, I would be working in my shop. I'd drop a nut - the only one I have like that. I'd look for it for like 5 minutes. No luck. I'd go inside, grab my son, and bring him to the shop. "I dropped it somewhere around here, Joe." Like 3 seconds later - "Dad, here it is". It was amazing, man...

Fortunately working in the aviation industry I've developed a keen sense of finding dropped items. While building my house there were many times I'd drop a screw, nail, or staple from atop a 8-10ft ladder.
FIL- Oh it's gone now! We'll never find it! Hope we have another.

Me- (climbs down ladder scans the area picks up item)

FIL- looks in disbelief.

I've spent the last 8 years wrenching in gravel drive ways and carports now that's a disaster of lost hardware!

Magnets! I can't believe no one has suggested a quick sweep of the area with one of those magnetic "grabbers" on a telescoping stalk.

Cheapest solution buy a single small one and cut it into insoles for all your shoes.

Actually I have an office chair that I've been sitting in for maintenance it hasn't been too bad yet. I'm patient and cheap so the lift will come along when I can get one at the best possible price.

I just put a couple down by my main workbench a couple months ago. I wish I had done it a long time ago, makes a big difference.

Reminiscent of the recent Great Toilet Paper Outage we are now being informed that Tractor Supply stores all across the country are reporting shortages and outages of horse stall mats. In particular, the interlocking stall mats are totally sold out.

Shortages are not just in stall mats.... I was in the TSC Store just the other day and I bought the last roll of chicken fencing. Someone else mentioned that they were in Canadian Tire and couldn't find any tire patch kits for tube tires (bicycle)

I was sort of joking about the stall mat shortage. It's like us on the Forum, one person posts how great something is and then there is a run on it.
