It’s pretty obvious the outermost friction plate is FUBAR. And the metal plate next looks like burnt toast.

The other plates look okay.

There was plenty of grit and discoloration on the outermost plate.

I am not stressing about getting the innermost steel plate out that is behind the retention wire right now.

There is one more friction plate behind there so I might give it a shot if needed.

Why would I have to take out the clutch Boss and the associated rod? All the plates, both friction and steel slide out without removing them. I don’t want to borrow trouble.

It looks like I am going to have to order a set of plates to be safe. Is that what you all would do?

I give the wire removal a shot and it came out okay. Glad I did. Here are the last two plates. They don’t look good.

Image
Crispy looking. I am assuming there is supposed to be ridges on this backside too.

Image

Lots of grit.
Image

Some ridges present.
Image

Back side looks okay.
Image
Image

The side that was up against the friction plate that now has no ridges.

I am going to need some help getting a line on the friction plates.

I think if I get them, I can reassemble and ride.

What are my best options to get these parts here ASAP. THANKS

Looking at part warehouses that have them in and will ship quick.

Got my list ready to go in the morning.

Worst comes to worst and I will clean these all up real good and reassemble to see if that works. After changing oil to some motorcycle specific Belray with all the correct specs, I gotta be good.......right?

If anyone knows a way to get clutch friction plates quick, please chime in

Cav - you might try Partshark over in Indy. They might have them on the shelf.

Man, those are ugly! Before you replace the steels, try scrubbing them with mineral spirits and Scotchbrite medium abrasive pads. Check thickness.

Then you have to figure out why this happened. Continual clutch clip because of issues with lever?

You don't, I only explained the rod going across to help you understand that the piece in the middle is a plunger with a single ball bearing behind it that can fall out at disassembly.

Good job on getting it all apart. Putting it back together is easy!

I suspect that thing will ride like a new bike when you get it back together. I can't believe how smoked it is.

Whoever you order them from, make sure you do it with a phone call to verify it's actually in stock. The big online places will let you pick 2nd day air, show in stock, and then not ship it for weeks or send you an email update days later saying the date is moving.

Yamaha dealers have access to all other dealers, so if you have one of those around, and they don't have it, they can see who else does and actually get it to you. Order it from whoever has it, just noting that you might want to verbally double check with whoever you get it from to make sure that it's actually in stock and will actually ship that day.

Ho Lee Sheet! I bet that lever has been dragging for a while. Even mine weren't that bad and for them to be that bad so early.... You been drag racing on Friday nights when there's no football?? Wow!

I'm happy to see we can continue referring to it as "The Jesus hole." Now get those parts ordered ASAP!

Parts Shark says they do not have any.

Waiting for someone to return my call from PartZilla.

And waiting for RMATV to open in a minute.

All of the places do not seem to have them in stock. It ain’t looking good.

Click the pic below and try Ron Ayres, I've had good luck and good pricing from him. It may be time to see if a dealer can find the parts.

Partzilla shows them in stock, yes?

Partzilla is the one famous for saying it's in stock and then you getting follow up emails days later. Next day air works great, but not when you wait 14 days to ship it, but it "appears" to be in stock at Partzilla, but I might be picking the wrong year/model. I just picked the 2015 standard model.

Since you have it down to this point you may want to install a slipper clutch from a 2016 or newer bike.

Not looking good on RMMC, they show the back one and steel plates in stock, but the friction ones shipping in 7-10 days. - Edit - I see you already talked to them. Time to call the Yamaha shops and see what they have.

Maybe just put it back together and go trade it in on a new one. :)
