3D-Printing files

Post by Red »

This post is to propose starting a list of files (maybe in the Tech Library here?) for the 3D printing of various small parts for the FJR, which may be otherwise too expensive, hard to find, or not-invented-yet.

As starters, there may be good interest in clear turn signals (for use with the bright-colored LEDs), air dams or air vents for the front cowling, mirror streamlining "bullets," foot shields, connector weatherproofing, and mounting plates/adapters for various gadgets. The list is endless, really.

Anybody wanting these items could download the 3D printer files for them, and either 3D print them (DIY) or have them made by commercial 3D printer shops. My local library (remember libraries?) has 3D printers, and held classes to teach people how to make things with them.

Maybe "the future" can start right here. 8-)
.
Cheers,

Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

How about those stupid little plastic rivet things that always fly into never-find-it-land?

The 6 pannier plugs, I think, could be lucrative.

I have the model for the plastic insert that the Gen 2's had. I turned mine into a Bluetooth controller housing with buttons.

Just a reminder that 3D printed parts, in most cases, aren't cheaper or stronger. Filament material also matters. PLA is the most common material used in 3D printing because it is easy to print with. But it is a rigid material that will fade and warp in any outdoor use. I'm guessing that's what is in most library printers. If you want to print with ABS, you'll likely need an enclosed printer since it is prone to warping and is toxic when melting.

Oface,

Not worth the trouble, IMHO; just buy 'em by the bag on eBay.

Everyone did. I know it, because every time I tell someone I have a 3D printer, they ask me if I can print a gun. EVERY f@$king TIME!

Yes I could. No I won't.

The guy who started that entire debate was able to fire it only once. He had a string tied around the trigger and pulled it from a couple hundred yards away. One shot may be all you need, but I wouldn't trust it in my hand.

There are probably better designs out there now. The fight to try and take down the design files was pointless though. Take one down and a hundred more pop up.

Now it's time to see if my switchblade print has finished.

Up close and personal is so nice. It's the way it was done since the earliest days.

Count me out on any of these things.
