I try not to screw around. I ran a dry test by duplicating the forum and upgrading that. Everything went smooth so I got everything prepped and in place so that today all I had to do was rename a folder, run the script, upload the merged/updated files and then rename another folder. shaved 3min off the dry run, can't beat that with a stick.
Trying to be different, just like everyone else.

Not sure what all that means, but I'm impressed. :) Thanks!

Congrats on a job well done. Even though I was kind of looking forward to standing outside your house with my monitor.

Well, I could ban you if you want. There's a button here somewhere for that.

It's always more entertaining performing "tests" on a production site. :D

I do avoid that at all costs. Call it actually being in the IT field and seeing first hand (just on Monday of this week actually) how badly that can go, lol. Case in point, never let someone to power line work in the data center during production hours. was called because that happened (facilities didn't tell anyone in IT that would be happening) and 4 racks of server went down because vendor man cut power to the wrong things. Certainly not the worst I've seen happen, but it's the most recent.

Somewhere I have some pics from one of my former jobs were an HVAC vendor hooked spot chillers in the data center up to keep it cool while working on the main chiller. Problem was, they hooked the spot chillers into one of the circuits being fed by our massive UPS system. You never hook something like that into a UPS system. End result was a capacitor in the UPS system that was the size of a bottle of whiskey, exploded taking out the entire power system. Took a week to repair all the electrical damage and we ran on generator during that time. So I've had some fine examples of what not to do, lol.

Oh yeah. I love those kinds of stories (as long as they didn't happen to me! :) ). Though it's always a good story after the fact.

case in point:

A couple of jobs ago we had a whole room 50kva UPS and I think the control board went bad. So the tech came out after hours (luckily) and said that he needed to put the UPS into bypass. No interruption of service at all he guaranteed.

Well, sure enough, when he put the thing into bypass, the entire server room went dark. About 11 or 12 racks worth of gear. Gear that supports the working of the Internet. Yeah, was not a fun night.

Just curious on the update (taking it you mean phpbb 3.0.11 to 3.0.12)

Which update method did you choose?. I went changed files only and FTP'd them independently for my Forum, did the DB via automatic (php install file). Took less than 5 mins. and appears fine (backed up jus in case of course).

Cheers

Same method save for the auto ftp. Since I have a duplicate of this forum that I use for Dev, I just downloaded the changed files and had them ready for the production forum.

Okay. Forgive me for getting all technical here.

The shit seems to be working fine.

Hard to say if it'll handle a heavy load, ….since Beemerdons is in Mexico right now.

This went so quickly and smoothly that I never noticed it. Nicely done. Thank you.
My wife asked me why I speak so softly around the house. I said that I was worried that someone was listening. She laughed, I laughed, Alexa laughed.
