I'm not dead, just gone for a bit. I haven't had the time to tackle this issue, just wanted to pick your brains before I dig into it. I appreciate all the help and the cinnamon bun suggestions are right on point.

I only get to ride about once a month and I don't treat the gas when it's sitting. I usually have at least half a tank full (see? I'm an optimist). I have not experienced the Neutral light coming on, it certainly feels like a spark or fuel issue. So I will contact my local bakery, reserve some sugary sweets, and get Festus over here to help me fix this issue!

I have a test connector for testing and cleaning fuel injectors off the bike. Also, the stumble powerman and I experienced probably wouldn't feel much different whether it was spark or fuel, so don't dismiss the relay. It is very simple to eliminate as the problem. I am available to help if needed.

My issue was pure hell to duplicate off the road but I finally was able to capture this:



You'll have to watch it more than once to see it. Focus on my fingers manipulating the wire harness and how little I'm moving it. Then watch the scope or Voltmeter. We are measuring TPS with key on engine off. The positive probe ends are on the TPS signal input at the ECU and the negative probe ends are on battery negative. At about 5 seconds and 15 seconds into the clip we see TPS voltage jump from roughly .750 volts to .900 volts. The throttle shaft is NOT moving. At ths point I was overjoyed and certain that I'd found a break in the wire on the sensor ground side of the TPS circuit. I took the injector harness apart. There is a junction in that harness where the sensor ground wires from 4 or 5 sensors come together and are joined by a brass crimping ring. The voltage didn't fluctuate on any of the other sensors when the TPS fluctuated. From the brass crimp 1 wire goes back to the ECU sensor ground terminal. There was nothing loose at the brass crimp. I cut the crimp out and removed the TPS sensor ground wire, including the terminal, from the connector at the TPS all the way back to the crimp, and then i stripped ALL of the insulation off it. I found not a single broken strand. WTF! I scratched my head for a while. Then I soldered a new piece of wire onto the TPS connector terminal and ran that back to the junction where the brass crimp used to be. I crimped the 5 wires back together with a heat shrink crimp connector and put it all back together. A couple thousand miles since then, incuding SFO, without a hiccup. Still, I sure would have liked to get my fingers on a certain "EUREKA" break in wire or loose connection.

I don't know if this will help with your Gen3 issue but it's a good example of how hard it can be to chase down an issue that's bad enough to cause a problem but not bad enough to set a code or to be easy to duplicate on the centerstand.

Finally got my family's 9 bicycles and the lawnmower moved out of the way so I'm starting to break down Jolene and tackle this issue. I'm planning to start with the simple things: Seafoam in the tank plus new spark plugs, air filter, and TB sync. I'll keep ya posted!

Since the slacker is slow to respond, he put seafoam in the tank, changed the air filter, plugs, and we synced the throttle bodies. They weren’t out enough to matter, but he rode all day a couple days ago and said she ran flawlessly.

Define "fix". Besides, no one's reading this thread because some people take two months to change their spark plugs.

Sometimes simply “the laying on of hands” heals. You guys changed a bunch of things at once, it's hard to know if you changed/fixed something that was out of spec or bad. Then perhaps in the thrash of moving connectors, hoses, wiggling plug wires, swirling gas and molesting TB screws one of those was actually “the laying on of hands” leading to the root cause fix even though they weren't specifically addressed. In the words of one of the wisest people in history, "Shit happens".
