Garmin/Tom Tom alternative?

Post by blind squirrel »

No affiliation, but I would be interested to hear if someone buys one and does a review of it.

Sounds better than a lot of other apps, but if it relies on phone data to operate, I'm out. Max. 22 waypoints, probably not bad for most pre-planned routes.. not clear how it calculates, ie, implies it works like Google Maps or with Google Maps... how many waypoints required to keep it on the intended track... can I shut auto-calculate off? Lotsa questions, little info. I'll wait to hear reviews also.

I see where they're coming from but IMO, blindly following a GPS with no map display to verify exactly which road it decided you should be on is nuts.

Well, Lee, I got confused at first whether it uses your phone as the display or not... or phone data (I think it needs it). I think you'd have to have your phone mounted up to see it, but then again, Beeline says their interface is so you can use regular gloves and not have to use a resistive touch screen..... no user manual, or user instructions for the app.... I'll wait for the reviews. If I create .gpx files it can use them, however, why wouldn't I just load them into my Garmin instead.
