Ivan does disable it.raYzerman wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 8:18 pmThat's the PAIR system at work...... didn't know if Ivan could disable it (leave solenoid in the closed position). You could just remove the PAIR system.chazglenn3 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 2:56 pm The flash for me was worth it just to stop the decel popping thru my Staintune cans. Ivan's flash leaves the PAIR system solenoid in the closed position.

Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
With the stock cans, and the PAIR system enabled, I get zero decel popping. Is that an "aftermarket exhaust only" thing?

I guess so. I've never had any decel popping on any of my stock FJRs.

I don't notice decel popping with Staintunes. Are you using the quiet inserts? (I am on my 2011)chazglenn3 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 2:56 pm The flash for me was worth it just to stop the decel popping thru my Staintune cans. Then again, the low speed jerkiness being gone is awesome too!

Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
I dunno - I listened VERY carefully yesterday while out on the bike and didn't hear anything of the sort. I do think that I get the theory - it's kind of like introducing an exhaust leak, no?

Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
The PAIR system works by passively allowing air to enter the exhaust after combustion. There is a hose from the airbox (filtered air) to the solenoid. The solenoid opens on decel under certain conditions, air is simply sucked into each PAIR port from the vacuum created by the exiting exhaust. There are reed valves to prevent backflow if the exhaust happens to be under pressure. The air is just meant to burn up unburned gasses in the exhaust, assisted by the heat of the cats. It can pop occasionally on decel.
Yes it is an exhaust leak of sorts. You'd get the same popping if you had a leak at any joint in the exhaust, e.g. no gaskets in the headers or where the mid-pipes joins the headers. FYI, Delkevic includes an RTV type sealant with their system, which you apply prior to assembling the system, meant to seal any small leak that could happen (the pipes fit pretty precisely, so really not likely).
You can remove any PAIR system with the appropriate block-off plates. On Gen3, if you remove the solenoid, it will generate an error code if it senses the solenoid missing (one could install a resistor in the connector if you really wanted the solenoid gone).

No baffles. If you removed the PAIR system you wouldn't get the decel popping. I just never wanted to remove the PAIR.FJRoss wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 7:58 pmI don't notice decel popping with Staintunes. Are you using the quiet inserts? Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
I removed the PAIR a long time ago. I never ran the Staintunes without the inserts - I should try sometime. It is pretty quiet (not a bad thing, IMHO), but doesn't have a great sound.chazglenn3 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 1:35 pmNo baffles. If you removed the PAIR system you wouldn't get the decel popping. Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
They have a really nice mellow sound without the baffles. I had a guy walk over to me at Lowe's one day just to ask about the exhaust because he thought the sound was awesome.

Mine came on the bike when I bought my 2011 four years ago. Just never tried them without the baffles - I will definitely give it a try.chazglenn3 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 2:44 pm They have a really nice mellow sound without the baffles. Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
I've mostly only been on this forum, so only heard of Ivan's flash on FJR's. This past weekend I was in Canada on a ride. Talking with some guy riding a Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 and he says he had to get it flashed by some guy....and paused. I said "Ivan?", and he said yeah that's the guy. Said it ran a ton better after getting that done. Night and day.

Re: Ivan's ECU Flash Review
I hear it only on decel where I am next to hard scape like in a tunnel, stone wall, etc. Stock cans. I kind of like it.
Running yosh slipon race cans on my gsxr1000 bikes, decel popping pissed more drivers off than a high speed flyby. 2013 sounded fantastic.
