Trailer Hitch set up

Post by natehawk750 »

One thing I've yet to do is pull a trailer with a motorcycle... over the last 4 years I've gone to my FJR being my primary transportation. We have my wifes van for family outings, but I've sold my car. Being a bit obsessive I've found that 95% of the time I have no issues carrying what I need on the bike, but I have found a few times where I have bulky items to transport around. My quest to go %100 percent to motorcycle has brought me to this cross road of considering a light weight pull behind trailer.

So, I'm looking for a hitch and I'm not sure what hitches are still available. Im looking for your suggestions and possibly if anyone had a used hitch set up available. I'd be interested.

I know that Duane’s bike has a hitch, and the trailer is still in Marilee’s garage right now.

After I’m done with engineering in a couple weeks, I’m spending time to finish up his bike. But if you want, I could take a picture of the hitch he has on his bike, which is in my garage.

Let me know if you want me to post photos or anything.

The trailer is an hour south of here at Maralee's... but I can post a photo of the bike and trailer combo from a previous post...if that will do for now. Edit: sorry, the hitch is not in my garage. It must be with the trailer at Maralee's.

It is a Bushtech and they tow great as I have one. Rails can be purchased for the lid to extend what you can carry. You can go as fast around a corner as you can without the trailer but you do have to plan and prepare for entry speed.

IIRC, Duane made some modification to the wheel bearings? I know he always carried spares.

Also - Poolboy has a trailer and has towed it many times. Another source of help.

Poolboy's trailer was molested (repairs attempted) by a bunch of drunk idiots at SFO one year.

Then you were probably the only one. Because at that point, the Honey Jack had already been removed from the trailer.

That is a Bushtec hitch and trailer. Best Hitch you can get. Best trailer too. It does use a pin with a Heim joint connection. Not sure if he has the hitch that has the pin bolted in or welded in. Depending on the trailer you have Nate will mater. If it is a welded in pin, you can cut it off and drill for a regular ball if that is what your trailer needs.

I don't have anything yet... I was going to start with a hitch and figure out the trailer after. I do know that I need a hitch that will work a darkside tire.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Bryan/Auburn is a darksider.

Bob (Intech) has a hitch for his bike that he may be able to set you up with.

Why do you all want to give away my hitch? I will be converting it to carry large flags for Patriot Guard Missions, so it will not be going anywhere.

When I ordered my hitch front Bushtec I asked to have a removable hitch. Unfortunately the FJR hitchis not on their website anymore. I also had to modify my hitch to clear the car tire.

Yeah, I don't think that I could send Duane's hitch down to you. I will keep that with the trailer when they both go on sale. I get the sense that you aren't lookin for a trailer, but I could be wrong. If that's the case, send me a PM.

Edit: I know Duane didn't ride Darkside.
