Finally took the leap and took the canister out of the loop. Learned a few things along the way:

- Removing the lower left fairing isn't really that hard. There are some great writeups on how to remove the plastic -- just realize you don't have to do all of that to get to the canister plumbing. I took off the windshield and a bunch of other stuff unnecessarily.

- There are two hoses going into the canister. One of them goes up around to the airbox and the other to the gas tank. The one going up to the tank is easy to find -- just follow the hose from the tank as far as you can towards the canister, then move it around to find the other end. I then threaded it all the way out.

- There are two hoses off of the tank. I cut them both long enough to reach the area above the front of the swing arm, then T'd them together. I used one of the cut sections to run from the T to just below the front of the swing arm.

- Back to the second hose still on the canister. I unplugged it and put a good-sized screw in the open end, then secured the screw with the already present clamp. Then I zip-tied the hose to the canister so it didn't flop around -- and just in case I needed to reinstall everything.

The bike runs GREAT. It has been 100 degrees here the last couple of days and I don't have that stumble anymore after it sits. I can usually smell faint gas fumes, but that's it. MUCH better than not being able to ride it!

Anyway, I hope I did that right. I wish I had taken pictures for everyone, but I wasn't able to take the time to do so. Hopefully the writeup will help as I couldn't find anything thorough out there.

Standard disclaimer: I'm not the expert, so do this mod at your own risk. If this is illegal where you live, don't do it.

Unfortunately it is a very long haul for us (450 miles each way) and we are leaving after work on Friday and have to be back in town by 6 pm on Sunday Night. Hardly worth going over all but he hasn't seen his friends we are meeting up with there in 5 years so here we go. We should have a full day to ride on Saturday and I wanted to know if anyone was familiar with the area and could put me on some "must ride" routes for the day.

Thanks for any info!

Somedays it pays to pay attention when things start going wrong so you can bail out and try again some other day.

Today unfortunately was not one of those days.

My AVCC has been DOA for two years, wiring was fine, vacuum was fine. Just a dud of a servo. I finally scored a new in box replacement unit.

I got outside (40F) and got to work swapping out the servo. I'm unhooking the cable from the tab on the throttle bodies, when the screw actually tore OUT the side of the tab. So now the hole is more of U shape. It was very close to the edge with just a little meat on it. After dicking with it for the next 90 minutes I've had enough.

Fuck it. AVCC is coming out. I lived without it for the last 2 years. I'm sick of fuckin' with thing. So I commence to putting the bike back together. Get all cleaned up, have some lunch get my gear and walk back out to the bike...

Then I notice. My brand new PR3 is flat as shit on the front.

FOR FUCKS SAKES.

Fine, I'll bring it back over to my buddy and we'll check the valve and shit. So I dig out my air compressor to re-inflate it. Crack my damn head off the Givi rack getting back up. Only to find that over the winter, my Slime pump has shit the bed.

SHITFUCKCRAP!

Fuck it. I'm not touching anything else today.

I had the same issue as others, how to secure my helmet. I found what I believe to be the simplest solution. I simply open a saddle bag and slide the helmet strap into the top of the saddle bag and then close and lock the saddle bag onto the strap. I do this to secure both mine and my passengers helmet on the bike. No extra cables or locks. Quick, simple and secure. I haven't had any issues of the helmet pulling loose.

I took a trip down to Laughlin, NV this weekend for the River Run. Yes, there are a bunch of knuckle draggers at events like that, but it was a nice ride down and fun for a few hours. On the way out of town my rear tire went flat. Luckily, I was in a valley and there was no cell service. Oh, and no one would stop (and there was a constant line of traffic). The icing on the cake? My son was with me and it was well over 90 degrees.

We started walking the bike up out of the valley when a very nice older couple on a Harley trike stopped to help. He tried his best to help by putting fix-a-flat in my tire (although there were no visible holes...). Bad news was, the fix a flat was many years old and sprayed more out of the cap than into the valve stem.

Eventually flagged down a police officer that called me a tow truck. Thanked the incredibly nice couple for stopping and waited for the truck. 2 hours after getting the flat, I was being towed into town. I noted that I didn't get a signal until 1 mile outside of town, which was 8 miles from where I got the flat. Ouch. He took me into Bullhead City where the Kawasaki dealer was closing up for the night. Luckily the crew there stayed open to fix my tire. Turns out, my valve stem had rotted. WHAT? :lame:

My tires are only 11 months old. My bike does spend a lot of time outside as I ride it to work every day. He explained that the angled valve stems tend to pull down towards the rim at speed due to centrifugal force. Speed limits outside of town were 75 and I never see that much speed on the way to work. I guess the combination of heat and speed caused it to finally rot. $170 later ($50 for stem replacement and $120 for the tow) I was on my way home.

I washed up the bike to discover dried up fix-a-flat all over my tire and rim. I thought I had wiped it off while it was still wet on the side of the road, but I must have missed some. Anyone have any clue how to get that stuff off? Is it dangerous having that on the sidewall of my tire?

So here it is, May the 1th... and I rode to work today! It was a little chilly (about 38F and foggy) but I don't have far to go.

This is the latest 'official' start to my riding season that I can remember.

I like winter for the 2 months we really get it. It's the 2 months going in and the 2 months coming out that I can't deal with anymore.

Worked the Local rider education tent with A pal of mine who Runs the local program. Well Ok, we hung out and talked all day... while I was there I did test ride the cute little WeeBR 250. I have ridden the TU250 and the Suzuki GZ250 the nighthawk and the rebel. The Little CBR250 is a very nice little Bike. took it about 7 miles out on the interstate and around town. Most refined small bike I have ever ridden. And Hahahah the suspension was a little stiff. My buddy says its cuz I am as light as a little girl. Sad Day, they wouldn't let me ride the CBR1000R like I wanted to. Maybe if they thought I was actually going to buy it? Drool
Riding a simple bike like that really brings back the reason I love motorcycles so much. throttle, brakes, tires, and wind in the face. nothing fancy. Just simple motorcycling.

Picked up a new 2012 in December of 2011 . I was happy / impressed , but improvement was really needed for my riding style . I'm 5 ' 1" 145 pounds , and when you have to run suspension full stiff on preload for solo well upgrades were on the way .

Before you assume , I have some mild racing background ( nothing special ) So the intent
is not to turn a FJR into a liter bike . I have a R6 for those duties along with a ZX11D.

I ride two up often ( wife a @140 ) that showed the FJR's real issues in stock trim with a combined two up weight of nearly 300 pounds with maybe 20 pounds of extras in the bags .

Hagon rear shock with remote hydro preload adjuster , followed by matching progressive fork springs . That was a night/day difference. All for only $685 bucks .

Next was improve performance , PC V , as a welder I removed the Header , and cut it open removing both factory cats. I then sourced a used O2 sensor from my yamaha dealer for free to cut the head off / fill the bung hole .

Next I fitted Muzzy ( last new pair in the USA ) round cans / slipons . This reduced a large amount of weight . Dyno reveled nearly stock #'s but I was very lean 15.1 so I corrected 80% 100% throttle and redid the dyno run with huge improvement.

122 / 87 tq no map changes to 129 / 94 The only PC V map is Two Brothers slipon's .

I have also reduced weight on the FJR by removing emissions , Changing mirrors , Air box mod , Shock change reduced nearly 1 pound ,

Here was the first mod or farkle . I also did my new bags and cowl behind the front wheel in extreme spray in bed liner . My friend owns a bed liner company .

I bought my 07 last December with 11K kms on it and one of the first service items I did was to lube the suspension linkages. The bearings were dry and the bolts corroded. And as usual I couldn't lube that frame bushing properly.

Those who have done it know of the problems in trying to remove that frame linkage bolt #23.

So today I did a mod to allow the bolt and relay arm to be removed.

To overcome this problem of removing the centrestand and propping the bike up to gain access to the frame linkage bearings I simple took a rotary cut off wheel and small grindinf stone and removed some excess material from the centrestand bracket to allow removal of the bolt in situ. You don't have to remove the centrestand.

The bolt for the frame pivot link is quite long and there are 5-6 threads extending the nut when secured. I cut the threads off leaving 1 thread past the nut when fully torqued. The bolt will not come out, the bolt head hits the exhaust, without removing a few threads.

I used a dozen or more dremel cut off wheels and grindstones to remove the metal that prevents bolt removal, there is plenty of material left behind and strength of the bracket is not compromised.

I also painted the clean metal edges with a matt black enamel to prevent the onset of rust. I also painted the shanks of all the suspension linkage bolts to prevent corrosion in the future.

It may have been easier to remove the centrestand but I didn't want to risk slinging the bike.

All up it took about 6 hours to do the mod and lube and a lot of cut off wheels. It will make servicing the linkages real easy, no excuse.

Cheers
